Her husband sees their ups and downs as normal challenges in a healthy relationship, but Cass lies awake at night wondering what you do when you need a break from your marriage? It comes as a shock to Jonathan when Cass persuades him to try a marital "intermission": a six-month separation during which they'll decide if the comfortable life they've built together is still the one they both want. Six months apart from their beloved dog is a different story, so they agree to meet once a month for a custody exchange. Time apart on opposite coasts makes the Coynes realize their problems may lie deeper than sweaty gym socks left on the bed and an empty container of milk put back in the fridge. Can a marriage experiment go too far for two people who once thought they had it all figured out?

Captivating and hypnotic writing from a prize-winning novelist, whose prose is reminiscent of Marilynne Robinson's and Paul Harding's. New York, June 1961. The Bill Evans Trio, featuring twenty-five year old Scott LaFaro on bass, play a series of concerts at the Village Vanguard that will go down in musical history. Shortly afterwards, LaFaro is killed in a car accident, and Evans disappears. Intermission tells the story of what happens next. In measured, evocative prose, Intermission takes a period from the life of one of America’s great artists and fashions it into a fiction of extraordinary imaginative skill and ambition. The novel inhabits the lives of four people in orbit around a tragedy, presenting an intense and moving portrait of the burden of grief, and of a man lost to his family and to himself. It is also a conjuring of a pivotal moment in American music and culture, and a unique representation of the jazz scene in the early 1960s. Intermission is a novel of pure control and power, certain to establish Owen Martell as one of the most promising young writers in Britain today.

The Flu Season No one in the middle of being in love ever sat down to write a love story. It's only after the belongings are sorted and the shirts returned that the pencils are sharpened and the notebooks opened. So, in a serious way, love stories are never love stories. Love is their inspiration, yes, but the end of love is the reason for their existence. This is a problem. It proposes anti-journeys where we saw only journeys, directs things toward a new negative we hadn't intended. The Flu Season tries to be a love story, anyway. It has a strategy. The play revels in ambivalence, lives in fits and starts, and derives a flailing energy from its doubts about itself. But these come at a price, which is paid by the characters in the play. A kind of clarity finally comes. In the end, is the end. Intermission “Two couples chat with one another at a play's intermission. From what we have heard, it sounds dreadful, which the cocky Jack points out. But his quibbles give way before Mr. Murray's torrent of memory and invective. He doesn't want to hear stylistic complaints, he wants the boy to recognize

Sascha Weidner (1974-2015) had an eye for magic moments; he knew how to capture the poetic, the fleeting on paper. Removed from the documentary, his photographs feature familiar things from completely new, unsuspected perspectives and transfer everyday life into make-believe worlds. For instance, the orange-yellow light of a streetlamp that illuminates a maple tree becomes golden rain, plumes of smoke swirl magically around cars damaged in accidents, or ruffled white sheets become cloud formations. The incidental receives special meaning, and the apparent lightness of the pictures a melancholic depth, vulnerability, and intimacy. Sascha Weidner prepared and brought this artist's book to completion in its current form during his lifetime. Nearly one hundred large-format illustrations carry the reader off into the visual world of this exceptional artist, who unfortunately died much too young.
