Doch Samuel will auch endlich begreifen, was damals wirklich geschehen ist.

'The best new writer of fiction in America. The best.' - John Irving Nathan Hill's brilliant debut takes the reader from the rural Midwest of the 1960s, to New York City during Occupy Wall Street; from Chicago in 1968, to wartime Norway: home of the mysterious Nix. Meet Samuel: stalled writer, bored teacher at a local college, obsessive player of online video games. He hasn't seen his mother, Faye, in decades, not since she abandoned her family when he was a boy. Now she has suddenly reappeared, having committed an absurd politically motivated crime that electrifies the nightly news, beguiles the Internet, and inflames a divided America. The media paints Faye as a radical hippie with a sordid past, but as far as Samuel knows, his mother was an ordinary girl who married her high-school sweetheart. Which version of his mother is true? Two facts are certain: she's facing some serious charges, and she needs Samuel's help. As Samuel begins to excavate his mother's - and his country's - history, he will unexpectedly find that he has to rethink everything he ever knew about her - a woman with an epic story of her own, a story she has kept

Dynamics and Stochasticity in Transportation Systems: Solutions for Transportation Network Modeling breaks new ground on the topics, providing consistent and comprehensive coverage of steady state equilibrium and dynamic assignment within a common strategy. The book details the most recent advances in network assignment, including day-to-day and within-day dynamics, providing a solid foundation to help transportation planners solve transient overload and other problems. Users will find a book that fills the gap in knowledge with its description on how to use and employ the latest dynamic network models for evaluation of traffic and transport demand interventions. This book demystifies the many different dynamic traffic assignment approaches and requires no previous knowledge on the part of the reader. All results are fully described and proven, thus eliminating the need to seek out other references. The skills described will appeal to transportation professionals, researchers and graduate students alike. Presents a consistent and comprehensive theory on steady state equilibrium assignment and day-to-day dynamic assignment models within a common framework Describes and solves modeling calculations in detail, with no need to reference other sources Includes numerical and graphical examples, text boxes and summaries at the end of each chapter to help readers better understand theoretical

This beautifully illustrated book explains how water influences our culture; the many phases of water from ice to gas, its simple but still so unpredictable nature, and water resources on Earth; how water is distributed in ice, oceans, rivers, lakes and more; how it creates transport possibilities; how it produces and absorbs energy; how it is constantly changing the surface of the Earth; how there is enough water on Earth, yet sometimes there is too much or too little; the role of water in recreation; and how water supplies us with food in a myriad of ways. Few things are like water – a subtle and thought-provoking element, so simple and yet complicated, so conspicuous yet unpredictable, so soft and peaceful yet powerful, and so universal yet unique. Water is by far the world’s largest commodity. Though it belongs to all of us, it is still not shared by all. We very seldom take time to reflect on the many ways that water affects our lives. Though it would be too ambitious to believe that it claims all the meanings and roles of water, this book, by showcasing water’s versatility and by sharing the experiences and insights gained by the

The Efferent System of Cranial Nerve Nuclei: A Comparative Neuromorphological Study
Language: en
Pages: 92
Authors: George Szekely, Clara Matesz
Categories: Medical
Type: BOOK - Published: 2012-12-06 - Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
A new approach using comparative neuromorphology is taken in this study dealing with the organization of the efferent nuclei of cranial nerves. The authors use the cobalt labelling technique to identify neuron types and follow their presence, or absence, in different animal species. They suggest a new classification which is free from a number of controversies inherent in the classical classification. The results suggest that evolutionary changes in the center and in the innervated periphary parallel each other with increasingly complex function.
